Long-term outcome of fasciotomy with partial fasciectomy for chronic exertional compartment syndrome of the lower leg.
BACKGROUND Fasciotomy with partial fasciectomy for compartment syndrome has had good short-term results, but no long-term studies have been performed. HYPOTHESIS Combining a partial fasciectomy with fasciotomy for compartment syndrome relieves pain and eliminates symptoms in the long term. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. METHODS A self-administered questionnaire was given to 62 p...
متن کاملDecompression of an experimental compartment syndrome in dogs with hyaluronidase.
The treatment of compartment syndromes in which elevation of intracompartmental pressure occurs is by surgical fasciotomy. This is a relatively simple procedure but may be associated with complications. This study aimed at developing an alternative method to decompress a compartment by use of the enzyme hyaluronidase. Autologous plasma was infused into the anterolateral leg compartments of six ...
متن کاملRepeat microvascular decompression for hemifacial spasm.
OBJECTIVE To report our experience with repeat microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm (HFS) in patients who have failed their first operation. METHODS The authors describe 41 redo MVDs for HFS in 36 patients performed over a 3 year period. Seven patients underwent early re-operation after an aborted seventh nerve decompression. Eight patients underwent early re-operation for c...
متن کاملResults of compartment decompression in chronic forearm compartment syndrome: six case presentations.
BACKGROUND There are few reports concerning chronic compartment syndrome producing symptoms in the forearm, although in the lower limb this is a well recognised condition. The objective was to demonstrate that chronic compartment syndrome is a cause of exercise induced forearm pain and transient upper limb dysfunction and that forearm compartment decompression can reliably relieve the associate...
متن کاملLate surgical decompression for compartment syndrome of the forearm.
Two cases are reported of the late diagnosis of compartment syndrome secondary to alcohol and drug overdose. Surgical decompression at two and a half days and at six days, respectively, produced worthwhile recovery. Other reports are reviewed and a case is made for the value of decompression even when performed late, and for delayed and minimal excision of apparently necrotic muscle.
